Flying the DJI Mavic Pro in Iceland

It’s me! Matt Stone. Welcome to Mavic Matt, my second YouTube channel. Here I’ll showcase the footage captured using my DJI Mavic Pro quadcopter.

We recently went on a trip to Iceland which was my first opportunity to use the Mavic abroad to capture some stunning natural scenery and get used to how the Mavic operated in low temperatures.

The locations were just outside the capital city Reykjavik at Sandskeið airfield which is used by the local gliding club during the summer months and Keflavík near the Blue Lagoon Spa.

Day Trip: Chasing Waterfalls with the DJI Mavic Pro

Join us as we go for a hike in the Welsh Valley’s and capture some stunning footage with my DJI Mavic Pro quadcopter.

We randomly decided to go for a walk in a Welsh National Park and ended up visiting one of the first places we ever went together as a couple.

Follow us as we make our way down into a small gorge that leads to one of the most stunning waterfalls in South Wales, the Nant Melyn waterfall. We then make our way up a crazy steep hill before heading off for a nice pub lunch.

Product Review: Cheerson CX-10w WiFi Video Streaming FPV Quadcopter

I’ve just received my newest gadget in the post! It’s the Cheerson CX-10W Quadcopter, which I believe (don’t quote me on this though) is the world’s smallest commercially available quadcopter with onboard WiFi video streaming. Watch as I unbox, fly, annoy my work colleagues and then review this amazing little product.

Please note: This is not a paid endorsement, Cheerson, Amazon, Bang Good etc. have not paid me to review this product (although if anyone wants to send me their latest tech I’ll happily give an unbiased and honest review!).

DJI Phantom FC40 1.1km (0.7 miles) range

This is a combined video of two tests using the DJI Phantom FC40 with the aim of getting the maximum possible range with minimal modification to the standard equipment. The first test was made using the stock controller and camera with the only addition being an un-modified wireless repeater.

The second test was made after modifying the controller with a RM-SPA connector and attaching a 5.8GHz circular polarised antenna. We also changed the antenna’s on our repeater to larger 8dbi antenna’s. The Phantom itself and the FC40 camera remain un-modified.

Extra equipment used:
1 x Tenda W3002R Wireless N Router/Repeater (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0…)
1 x MiniUPS (http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail…)
2 x TP-Link TL-ANT2408C 2.4GHz Antenna (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0…)
2 x Mini PCI to RP-SMA Pigtail Antenna (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0…)
1 x Neewer 5.8GHz Circular Polarised Antenna Set (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0…)

The Tenda W3002R is a very powerful little router, and at just over £20 it’s an absolute bargain, I’ve used them in many situations where a more powerful WiFi signal was needed and can’t recommend them enough. The Mini UPS powers the repeater for about 10 hours so is ideal for this application.

I was quite surprised by the performance of the Neewer 5.8GHz circular antenna (I only used the TX version on the transmitter and have yet to modify the Phantom), as these appear to be a cheap version of the similar FatShark antennas.

In my next video I plan will show the equipment used and the setup prior to flight as we attempt to safely beat this record.
